三四郎池 Sanshiro-Ike (Sanshiro-Pond)

Sanshiro-Ike is a small pond in the Hongo campus of Tokyo University, Tokyo, Japan.

Sanshiro is the young man in the famous novel "Sanshiro" written by Soseki Natume who was the most popular writer in Japan.
"Sanshiro" is the story that young man grew up through the friendship between the intellectual people lived in Tokyo,
where was the most developed place in Meiji-Era (about 100 years ago) in Japan.

Sanshiro was born in rural area (southern part of Japan) in Meiji-Era, and came to
Tokyo for studying in Tokyo University. He absorbed new things happened around him as well as studies.

This pond has been named after this book title, because the pond was
the first place where Sanshiro met Mineko whom Sanshiro got to love.

Now the place around the pond is very quiet. The pond is almost secret place covered with
green trees, so that there are very few people to visit here. You can spend your quiet time here.
